Norwegian Cruise Line Unveils Details of Norwegian M/V Luna:
A New Era of Innovation at Sea
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is preparing a spectacular new addition to its fleet with the announcement of the Norwegian M/V Luna. Scheduled for its maiden voyage in spring 2026, this highly anticipated vessel marks the 21st ship in NCL’s fleet and a bold evolution in the company’s Prima Plus Class series.
A Marvel of Modern Cruise Engineering
At 1,056 feet in length and weighing in at 156,300 gross tons, the Norwegian M/V Luna ties as the fifth-largest ship in NCL’s fleet. With a capacity of approximately 3,550 guests, the new vessel boasts a 10% increase in size and capacity compared to its Prima Class predecessors.
The Norwegian M/V Luna will sail on Caribbean itineraries departing from Miami, taking travelers to tropical destinations like Roatan Island, Costa Maya, Cozumel, and NCL’s private island paradise, Great Stirrup Cay.
Design Excellence and Craftsmanship
Norwegian M/V Luna is being built by Fincantieri, an Italian shipbuilder renowned for its precision and luxury craftsmanship. The ship is an identical sister to the Norwegian Aqua, which is set to debut in March 2025. Both vessels feature cutting-edge designs by renowned architectural firms, including AD Associates, Piero Lissoni, Rockwell Group, SMC Design, and Studio Dado.
These ships are part of Project Leonardo, NCL’s ambitious plan launched in 2017. While the first two ships, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, debuted in 2022 and 2023 respectively, ships 3-6 in the series are larger and offer expanded passenger capacities, taking NCL’s innovative spirit to the next level.
President of Norwegian Cruise Line, David J. Herrera, captured the excitement surrounding this launch:
“The debut of Norwegian M/V Luna truly showcases our ongoing commitment to providing guests more of what they enjoy and value—a brand-new ship with the latest, innovative offerings sailing to the beautiful, tropical destinations of the Caribbean.”
The Norwegian M/V Luna promises a treasure trove of onboard experiences. Highlights include:
- Aqua Slidecoaster: A thrilling hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide offering unforgettable excitement.
- Glow Court: A multi-use digital sports complex that transforms into a vibrant nightclub.
- Luxury Haven Suites: New Three-Bedroom Duplex Haven Suites provide an unparalleled blend of privacy and opulence.
- World-Class Dining: Guests can savor global flavors at Sukhothai, a Thai specialty restaurant, or explore culinary delights at the Indulge Food Hall.
The Norwegian M/V Luna’s debut comes as part of NCL’s largest ship order to date—a fleet of eight new vessels scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2036. Spanning Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, this expansion represents the company’s vision for the future of luxury cruising.
